Almost all new basenji owners join our club.
Despite its relatively small size, the Finnish Basenji Club functions very actively. All members have a possibility to work in one or several of the different committees. The first to be mentioned is the breeding committee which concentrates on the development of the breed, for example, by maintaining the breeding files and by organizing offspring evaluations. Other committees are the publishing committee, taking care of the publishing of Basenjisanomat as well as our year book; the training committee which organize training sessions in different parts of Finland; the Internet committee which produce and maintain the internet pages; and also the racing committee which advocate racing as a nice hobby for all Finnish basenjis.
The Finnish Basenji Club was founded in 1972. There were 13 members present at the constitutive meeting, and most of these first members are still actively involved in the club activities. Our club was registered in 1973 and thanks to its members' active work, it was accepted as an official breed club in 1975. Today the Finnish Basenji Club has no less than three hundred members, which equals the number of basenjis in Finland.
