Rules for the "Finnish Basenji of Year" competition

All basenjis that are owned or co-owned by Finnish citizens, and that compete in Finnish dog shows can participate in this competition. One of the owners also needs to be a member of the Finnish Basenji Club.

The basenji with the highest score wins the trophy each year. If there are more than one dog with the same score, then the basenji with most
  1. BOB points
  2. Fellow competitors at the show
wins that year.

The trophy can be won after three wins. If no basenji wins three times during the six-year period (dogs from 2000, bitches from 2004), then the basenji with most wins will be awarded the trophy. If more than one basenji has two wins, then the dog with the greatest
  1. single
  2. total
score wins the trophy.

The trophy and the diploma will be presented to the winners at the annual spring meeting of the club. Basenji dogs and bitches compete in the same class. Each year the owner of the winning basenji has to have the name of the dog engraved on the trophy and to bring the trophy to the following spring meeting.

Each owner can include the score from five Finnish dog shows as well as the Finnish specialty. At least three shows need to be international shows. The results by one judge can only be included twice each year.

"Dog points", i.e. the total score of dogs won by your own dog at each show, can only be included if the dog in question has gained at least an "excellent" (EXC). This is not the case with the Finnish basenji specialty, in the results of which each dog that has gained at least "very good" (VG) in quality judgement gets the "dog points".

All owners need to send the results of their dogs to Ms. Anneli Pukkila, address: Saariseläntie 2 A 12, FI-00970 Helsinki, Finland, by the end of the year (by 31st December 2008).
